graduation shoes

17 May 2010

Today’s my graduation ceremony at Radio City and although I have to wear the ugly gown, it doesn’t mean I have to wear ugly shoes too. I didn’t have the heart to throw out this pair after our cat chewed through the front. So I saved them by covering up the teeth marks with ribbon. It was challenging repeating the pattern on the second shoe but well worth it. They look new! My feet feel like they’ve been gift wrapped, and now I’m ready to walk across that stage.

tied up in tie dye

13 May 2010

Lately, I’ve been having tie dye cravings. Maybe because it’s come back this spring after making it’s debut in the 70′s. So I made this pin with tie dyed ribbon from Mokuba to go with my outfit today. It will have to do for now.

changed

An old-fashioned, long skirt (from my high school years) turned into a fun dress.

I came across these handbags this weekend and thought they were very cool. It’s hard to make eco look chic but Ella Vickers has done just that with her collection. Her bags are made from discarded yacht sails.

happy sailing

English sailboats again! I found this Liberty print at Purl last week and although it’s not typical plant/floral Liberty, I really love this design. The intricate details and the differing line weights against a cream backdrop creates a modern yet old world feel. I followed instructions from the purl bee (they use a different pattern) to piece this coin purse together because all the instructions that came with the metal kiss frame are in Japanese. The flower was made as an ode to the classics. Cheers!

spring scarf

Dressing for Spring/Fall is tricky, but scarfs are the perfect climate transition accessory for the see-saw temperatures during this time of year (wooh was it cold this weekend!). This scarf was made from left-over fabric I had from making curtains for our office. This material is just perfect for both purposes. As curtains, it lets in so much sun without having to draw them, and as a scarf, it is light and airy yet warm, reflecting the season better than a wool knit.

loving lovely lattice

I bought ‘lovely lattice’ from Mood last year for seat covers, but ended up using thrifted fabric instead. I dug this up while looking for fabric for the apron project. I fell in love with it all over again and decided I needed to carry it around. I’m a sucker for black-and-white.

I have a stack of these grey papers from our handmade wedding invitations. They have directions to the church and reception on the back. This weekend I finally justified my decision not to recycle them almost a year ago, well at least 4 of them. Only 196 left.
