I was surprised to see so much wildlife in Central Park this weekend. We crossed paths with a raccoon (nocturnal?) and came in arms reach of a redwinged blackbird. We also saw a crane, a few ducks and some turtles in the water. It almost made me forget that I was in a city filled with high rises, nightclubs, crowded markets and lost tourists.
The photograph above is from Belvedere Castle overlooking Turtle Pond with crane in mid-flight, The Great Lawn filled with sunbathing New Yorkers, and the upper east side city scape peering over the horizon. The big apple is just a big paradox from here.

like birds but more like bats

A long time ago, my four-year-old-self laid hands on a juicy, black, permanent marker and went to town on the wall behind our living room couch. My hidden masterpiece. No one knew about it until the painter came and tried to white it out, but it kept showing through all the fresh coats of paint. He asked me if I did it, but I pretended not to understand and I surprisingly came away unscathed.
If I could responsibly get away with using black, permanent marker on the walls again, I would try this.

I did these drawings for work…. and that is all I can say. Anyway, these drawings reminded me of Tim Burton. Ha! I guess that is a huge compliment to myself. ‘Reminded’ doesn’t mean they are ‘like’ his drawings in any way. I sooo want to see his exhibit at the MOMA before it ends April 26th but the timed tickets are sold out! Looks like I’ll be heading out there bright and early between now and then for the limited releases.

Thought I would try out some natural landscapes as suggested by my brother-in-law, David, and coincidentally inspired by an episode of Life, BBC Production.

I didn’t know that flying fish existed until I watched the first episode of Life, BBC Production. These creatures can jump out of water and be airborne for up to 200 meters to escape their ocean predators. So amazing and beautiful! My jaw literally dropped when I saw this.

All past wrongs are erased when our cat, Capo, sleeps. I forget about him wanting to chew through power chords, or him pulling down the house plants, or me stepping in his throw up first thing in the morning. When Capo sleeps, he is the perfect cat.

I used to have very long hair before the beginning of this year and I do miss it. Lately, I have had ‘soccer mom’ syndrome where the neck-length hair seems too short for the bangs. The one thing I regret was not doing more with long hair when I had it, like putting it up in interesting arrangements. Which reminds me – I need a haircut!

I came across a quote recently that made me consider some of the things I secretly worship. Hope you consider them too.
